Each Pecos Shank is available in different styles — plain or silver-mounted, and with either a solid mouthpiece or a jointed/moving mouthpiece such as corrections, dog bones, or snaffles.

If you’re wanting a mounted or unmounted Pecos Shank with a solid mouthpiece, select one of the Pecos Solid Mouthpiece options.
If you prefer a jointed or moving mouthpiece, select one of the mounted or unmounted Pecos Correction and Jointed Mouthpiece options.

The Pecos Shank measures 7″ from the top of the bridle ring to the bottom of the rein ring. Just a 1/2 inch longer and slightly heavier than the 50 Shank, it offers a touch more leverage while still maintaining a smooth, balanced feel. This makes it a great step up for horses that have progressed out of a shorter shank but do not require excessive leverage. The slight swept-back profile is similar to the 50 shank and helps keep signals soft and consistent, allowing for clear communication without feeling abrupt.

The Pecos Shank features decorative cheek detailing near the mouthpiece, adding a refined, classic look while also contributing to the overall weight and balance of the shank. Crafted from high-quality steel, this bit is designed to naturally patina and rust over time when exposed to humidity, saliva, or water. This process is intentional, encouraging salivation and relaxation in the horse’s mouth, and follows the traditional method of bit making.
