The 50 Shank measures 6.5″ from the top of the bridle ring to the bottom of the rein ring. Designed as a transition piece from a snaffle, its shorter length provides mild leverage, making it ideal not only for colts or greener horses learning to carry a shank bit, but also for seasoned horses that simply don’t require as much leverage. The swept-back design offers a softer, more forgiving feel, while its balanced size and shape keep it gentle, controlled, and effective as a step between a snaffle and a longer shank.
Crafted from high-quality steel, this bit is designed to naturally patina and rust over time when exposed to humidity, saliva, or water. This process is intentional, encouraging salivation and relaxation in the horse’s mouth, and follows the traditional method of bit making.
The 50 Shank is highly versatile and can be paired with any of our mouthpieces!
